May 21 “Jurisdiction Journey – Critical Decision Points” Webinar

Nicole Cook, Interim CEO of Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge, Cowessess First Nation, Saskatchewan presented the Jurisdiction Journey: Critical Decision Points webinar on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Cowessess First Nation has jurisdiction over child and family services for its members, including those on and off-reserve. This jurisdiction is exercised through their Miyo Pitomatisowin Act (Striving for a Better Life), which was enacted in 2021, and a coordination agreement with the Province of Saskatchewan.

The Act and the agreement ensure that the Nation has the authority to make decisions about child and family services within their community.

Nicole Cook leads a dedicated team in Cowessess First Nation’s journey to reclaim its inherent right to care for its children and families. As a proud Cowessess First Nation member, she is deeply committed to supporting the revitalization and transformation of child and family services for her people and works alongside her team to reimagine and redefine what these services should look like for Cowessess First Nation.

This webinar is a must-see for Nations and supporting organizations who are in the process of implementing jurisdiction over their own children.
