Our Children Our Way News Spring Equinox Issue March/April 2026
Message from Joni Conlon, Executive Director, Our Children Our Way
“As we welcome the arrival of spring and mark the Spring Equinox, we recognize this time as one of renewal, balance, and new beginnings. Across many Indigenous teachings, this seasonal shift reminds us of the importance of living in balance—with ourselves, with each other, and with the land. It is a time when the days and nights are equal, inviting us to reflect on how we restore harmony in our work and in our relationships, and how we nurture the growth of the next generation.
In this spirit of renewal, we continue to see meaningful progress across communities in support of Indigenous children, youth, and families. This work is grounded in connection—to culture, language, family, and community.
We are also excited to share that the Our Children Our Way Conference 2026 will take place from November 30 to December 3, marking our 5th annual gathering. This year’s theme will uplift and amplify children and youth voices, creating space to celebrate their resilience, leadership, and vision for the future.

In closing, as we enter this new season, we are reminded that just as the land begins to awaken and grow, so too does our collective work. With strong roots in culture and community, and with the guidance of our children and youth, we continue forward in a good way.”
