Wrapping Around Our Ways: A Family Preservation Gathering

In Early April, the Council of Yukon First Nations hosted Wrapping Around Our Ways: A Family Preservation Gathering at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon. Mary Teegee, Chair of the Our Children Our Way Society, and Shadelle Chambers, Executive Director of the Council of Yukon First Nations provided the keynote addresses.

The intent of the gathering was to explore best practices in culturally grounded wraparound supports for children and families. CYFN welcomed speakers from Arizona, Labrador, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon.

The presentation topics included: culturally-grounded pathways to family and community wellness; Indigenous parenting & grandparenting; traditional birthing practices & teachings; and culturally-responsive social work practices and education.

The Our Children Our Way Society congratulates the Council of Yukon First Nations for a successful gathering and for their ongoing work with First Nations children & families in the Yukon.
