Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) Territory. The Our Children Our Way Society is proud to host “Future House – An Approach to Strategic Planning” on Wednesday, January 15 at 10:30am. It is the first webinar of our monthly series in 2025.
The Future House tool, originally developed in Australia for child safety planning, has been adapted as a strategic planning aid for Nations and Organizations that serve and support Indigenous children, youth, families and communities. Its primary function is to help parents and caregivers articulate and achieve their vision for children’s safety, belonging, and well-being.
The Future House tool serves as a powerful strategic planning instrument by aligning organizational leadership with the core mission of supporting children, youth, families, and communities. By incorporating the Future House, organizations can create a cohesive strategy that mirrors the principles used in family support systems, ensuring that leadership and staff operate with a unified vision.
This approach not only helps in articulating and achieving organizational goals but also fosters an environment where the values and beliefs of the organization are consistently modelled. This alignment between strategic planning and on-the-ground support work ensures that the organization’s efforts are both effective and culturally sensitive, ultimately contributing to more robust and meaningful outcomes for the communities they serve.
Presenter Bart Knudsgaard, a settler who serves as an Advisor for the Our Children Our Way Society, helps to empower First Nations communities in British Columbia and the Yukon with his knowledge and expertise. His collaboration emphasizes the importance of Indigenous self-determination in child and family services, ensuring that communities have the authority to shape their futures according to their cultural values and traditions.
Webinar attendees can expect to learn about innovative strategies that effectively blend traditional practices with modern support systems. This approach not only honours Indigenous heritage but also creates resilient frameworks for community well-being. Such insights are invaluable for those committed to supporting Indigenous sovereignty and fostering environments where Indigenous children and families thrive.
This webinar will be recorded and available on our website the following week.
