K’emk’emelay̓ (Vancouver, BC) – Oct 28, 2024. The Our Child Our Way Society is proud to announce the third annual Our Children Our Way conference, taking place from October 28-30, 2024. The event is hosted on the traditional territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

With a focus on the vital themes of Indigenous child and family services, the conference will bring together over 1,300 delegates from across Turtle Island.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Cindy Blackstock, a tireless advocate for the rights of Indigenous children. The conference will feature several plenary sessions, including:

  • Invincible Storytelling: A youth panel sharing personal narratives and fostering resilience.
  • Breathing Life into Our Own Laws: A legal panel discussing the importance of Indigenous laws and practices.
  • Philosophy of a Life Cycle Approach: Presented by Carrier Sekani Family Services, focusing on holistic care for children and families.

In addition, attendees can participate in 50 diverse breakout sessions covering a broad range of topics related to Indigenous child and family services. These sessions aim to provide practical knowledge, innovative strategies, and collaborative solutions to the challenges facing Indigenous families and communities.

“We look forward to welcoming our colleagues, friends and family from across Turtle Island as we hold sacred conversations about the wellbeing of our children, youth and families,” says Jennifer Chuckry, Executive Director of the Our Children Our Way Society.
