Feb 19 “Developing and Expanding Indigenous Child & Family Services Agencies / Societies” Webinar Video & PowerPoint

This webinar was moderated by Our Children Our Way Society member Cindy Ghostkeeper, Executive Director of Nezul Be Hunuyeh Child & Family Services (Fort St. James & Prince George, BC) and presented by sister OCOW Agencies Carrier Sekani Child and Family Services Society (Joni Conlon and Stephanie Konefall), Denisiqi Services Society (Christa Smith), and Island Métis Family & Community Services Society (Melanie Hudson and Kim Adamek). Together they shared valuable knowledge, expertise, and insights on key topics including readiness, wise approaches, insights and reflections.

Developed for First Nations, Tribal Councils, and communities throughout Canada, this webinar is for those that are leading efforts to develop and expand their own Indigenous Child and Family Services agencies and societies, enhance existing ones, to assert their inherent rights to care for their children and families.

This movement is crucial in preserving cultural integrity and ensuring that services align with the unique needs of each community. In British Columbia, 25 Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies (ICFSA) play a vital role in delivering well-being, family support, and child safety services. These agencies serve over 120 of the 204 First Nations in the region. Mandated by the leadership of each Nation, Agencies ensure that:

  • Children’s rights are upheld.
  • Services are culturally rooted and responsive to community needs.
  • Programs are tailored to the specific cultural contexts of each region.
