Loving Justice: Breathing Life into Our Laws Conference

Save the dates!

Loving Justice: Breathing Life into Our Laws Conference will feature the latest information and workshops arising from the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent ruling on the constitutionality of Bill C-92 “An Act Respecting First Nations, Métis and Inuit Children & Families.” The act solidifies this legislated pathway to self-determination regarding child & family services, however, that pathway remains ill-defined.

The national conference will be of interest to First Nations, Métis and Inuit leadership, Indigenous child and family services agencies, those in the process of or considering to reactivate jurisdiction, legal and financial representatives.

Visit our YouTube Channel to see the recent webinar hosted by the Our Children Our Way Society with Dr. Cindy Blackstock (First Nations Caring Society), Naiomi Metallic (Schulich School of Law) and Mary Teegee (Carrier Sekani Child & Family Services). The expert panel provided an informed overview of Bill C-92 and answered many participant questions. The presentation is available in the Jurisdiction and Governance Resources section of our website.

Registration for the inaugural Loving Justice: Breathing Life into our Own Laws Conference will open in April/May 2024 and we encourage delegates to secure their accommodation as early as possible. Some of the hotels near the Vancouver Convention Centre offer a First Nations or Indigenous rate for group bookings.

Loving Justice: Breathing Life into Our Laws Conference is generously supported by the Representative for Children and Youth.
