Loving Justice – 2026 Assembly of First Nations AGM

Ahead of the Assembly of First Nations AGA next week, we are sharing a few important reminders and requests related to the work of the National Children’s Chiefs Commission (NCCC) and long-term reform of First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS).

AFN AGA: July 14–16, 2026, in Ottawa, with a hybrid option. Please encourage your Chiefs to attend or have a proxy registered if they are unable to participate.

  • NCCC Sessions: The NCCC, with the Caring Society and AFN, will be providing important updates and information during two sessions:
  • Dialogue Session: Mon. Jul 13, 3:00–4:30 p.m., Room 102. Please note: This session is in person only.
  • Plenary Session: Currently scheduled for Thu. Jul 16, at 1:00 p.m. The NCCC is seeking to move this session earlier in the agenda to reflect the significance of this work. If this change cannot be made in advance, a motion to amend the agenda may be brought from the floor, and support from Chiefs will be requested.

Resolutions: The NCCC will be seeking support for the following resolutions related to long-term reform:

  • Draft Resolution #11: Minimum Standards for Ending Canada’s Discrimination in First Nations Child and Family Services Outside Ontario
  • Draft Resolution #12: Clarity, Accuracy, and Respect for Chiefs-in-Assembly Authority in Communications on Long-Term Reform
