Jordan’s Principle “Still Not Filling the Gaps” Webinar

Jordan's Principle is a child-first principle to ensure First Nations children get the services they need when they need them. The CHRT has ordered Canada to implement the full meaning and scope of Jordan's Principle, but children are still waiting for the services they need. The Caring Society has documented numerous ongoing challenges that children and families face when trying to access Jordan's Principle funding, including: lengthy delays in determining requests, including in urgent cases; lengthy delays in funding approved requests; phone calls and information requests that go unanswered; unreasonable eligibility criteria; unreasonable application requirements. In December, the Caring Society filed a motion of non-compliance with the CHRT seeking new orders to compel Canada to implement Jordan's Principle in a manner that meaningfully meets the needs of First Nations children. On January 16, 2024 the Our Children Our Way Society hosted a webinar on Jordan's Principle and Canada's ongoing failure to fully implement it. Dr. Cindy Blackstock and her Team provided information and answered questions. Presented by Dr. Cindy Blackstock, Brittany Mathews of the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society, David Taylor & Kevin Droz from Conway Baxter Wilson Lawyers, and Jennifer Chuckry, Executive Director of the Our Children Our Way SocietyClick for the Presentation and the Webinar Q&A
