Our Children Our Way: A Forum for Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being

Join us for the 3rd annual Our Children Our Way: A National Forum for Indigenous Child & Family Well-being conference taking place on the unceded and ancestral territories of the sḵwx̱wú7mesh, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm and səlilwətaɬ Nations October 27 – 30, 2024. The conference aims to hold space for the sharing of effective approaches and best practices in strengthening Indigenous children, youth, and families.

By sharing various aspects of practice, policy, community healing, operational development and jurisdictional pathways, the conference seeks to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of Indigenous child and family services across the Nation.

Key Conference Highlights

  1. Best Practices: Participants have the chance to explore and discuss innovative practices and interventions that promote the well-being and development of Indigenous children and families. 
  2. Nation-based Prevention Services: Participants will share and discuss prevention programs and services that strengthen families and communities. Discussions may explore program development, community engagement, service data or community partnerships.
  3. Community Healing: Recognizing the historical trauma and ongoing impacts of colonization, the conference addresses the importance of community healing in the context of child and family services. Participants may explore culturally appropriate healing practices, trauma-informed care, and strategies to support community well-being.
  4. Policy & Operational Development: The conference will offer a platform to examine policies, operational aspects, service delivery models and frameworks relevant to Indigenous child and family services. Discussions may focus on policy development, implementation, and evaluation, with the goal of decolonizing policies and operational practices.
  5. Jurisdictional Pathways: The conference acknowledges the importance of Indigenous self-determination and jurisdiction in child and family services. Participants will share and learn from one another on the pathways and approaches to govern child and family services.

We are now accepting session ideas for the 3rd annual Our Children Our Way Conference where we will host approximately 1100 conference attendees.  All break-out sessions are 90 minutes in length. The call for sessions will close on May 31st.  Whether your idea is polished or still in development, your session proposal will be considered.

Your wisdom and experience are integral to building a powerful and inspiring OCOW program. Please submit your ideas by May 31, 2024.
